Caring Ministry - Mary Greenwood
Our Caring Ministry seeks to build a network of Christ-centered fellowships within the congregation. The purposes of this ministry are (1) to provide events which unite the congregation in fellowship, and (2) to encourage smaller groups within the congregation, and (3) to foster a growth in the Holy Spirit within all the people of Apostles.
The Caring Ministry encourages all people at Apostles to become a part of a caring spiritual fellowship. Congregational events and outreaches include Wednesdays Alive, Oktoberfest, A-MEN, Ladies Night Out, Women of the ELCA, Stephen Ministry, Prayer Chain, Greeting Card Ministry, Keenagers, Emergency Meals, game nights and dinners, etc.
Youth and Children - Becky Loraamm
The Children and Youth Ministry provides Christian programs for ages birth through twelfth grade. This ministry works closely with the Teaching Ministry to provide an extension of Christian education through fun activities, Bible Study and fellowship. This group is divided into two age levels. The children's ministry (birth to fifth grade) is known as the Sparklers. The older youth (sixth to twelfth grade) are the Youth Ministry for Middle & High School students. We have many events scheduled for our youth, some are on-going and others seasonal. We also actively participate in service projects to enhance our church and community.
Apostles has chartered Boy Scout Troop 110 for over 22 years and sponsors a very active Cub Scout Pack 110 as well as two Girl Scout troops.
Health and Wellness - Richard VanEpps
The Health and Wellness Ministry embraces a philosophy that stresses caring for the whole person (body, mind and spirit) and focuses on disease prevention, health maintenance and education strategies. We believe that with the help of enthusiastic volunteers, the Health and Wellness Ministry can collaborate with medical providers to demonstrate a commitment to whole health and wellness through:
· Health promotion and prevention
· Partnership with community agencies by sharing resources of time, talents and gifts
· Acting as advocates for policy changes within the community
Some of the activities that fall in these areas are the regularly scheduled blood drives, Life Scan Screenings and Wednesdays Alive Classes
Managing Ministry - Julio Jimenez
The Managing Ministry makes improvements to the church buildings and grounds, and develops and implements a preventative maintenance program. It schedules and supervises periodic volunteer workdays and also reviews all expenditures for potential savings.
Preschool Ministry - Jean Holler
Apostles has had a Christian-based preschool education program over thirteen years, and it does its job so well that there is always a waiting list. The preschool has a staff of a director, three teachers, and a teacher's aide. At full enrollment, that yields a student teacher ratio of less than seven to one. This is a better ratio than most preschools achieve. The curriculum consists of "developmentally appropriate practices" which is similar to the Montessori approach.
Proclaiming Ministry - Gary Cottingham & Ken Brown
The Proclaiming Ministry is in charge of a publicity program that tells of Apostles' activities and services to the community. We have a Greeter Program, whose volunteers meet and warmly greet people at all services to maintain our image as a "friendly church." It also provides a Welcome Packet to those visitors who identify themselves at Sunday services. The Proclaiming Ministry arranges a reception on New Member Sunday. The Proclaiming Ministry maintains the Guest Register and contacts each visitor to welcome them to our church community. Our web site is also a part of this ministry.
Serving Ministry - Kristen Smith
The Serving Ministry sponsors numerous outreach programs. It provides ministry to the elderly though the Meals On Wheels program, supports Habitat for Humanity. The Serving Ministry encourages and coordinates service to local community nonprofit service organizations, such as the Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO) and the Beth-El Mission for migrant families in Wimauma. During the Christmas season, the Jesse Tree program is initiated which distributes gifts to needy families. It has also been part of the Salvation Army Stuff-A-Stocking Program.
Stewardship Ministry - Howard McNair
The Stewardship Ministry encourages us to be good stewards of the gifts that God has given us - time, talent and possessions-to help make the vision for Apostles become a reality. Stewardship conducts campaigns for recruiting church workers and for encouraging financial giving within the Apostles community. The Gift Management ministry reports the Sunday attendance of the congregation and the financial giving at Apostles to the Council. Through this ministry, the congregation is informed of the fruit of their giving on local, synod and worldwide levels of the church. Year-round stewardship is encouraged throughout the year through emphasis in the Epistle, Mini-Epistle, ministry minutes and bulletin boards. This ministry schedules and coordinates all appeals for funds among all ministries at Apostles. The Stewardship ministry educates the congregation on their responsibility as a member of the Congregation and the church universal, to support faithfully with prayer, personal service and offerings, the synod for the Kingdom of God.
Teaching Ministry - Charlene Stroehlen
The Teaching Ministry is involved in all areas of learning. It selects materials and coordinates leaders for Sunday School, Adult Sunday School, Confirmation, First Communion, Vacation Bible School and Day Camp. Through this ministry, newly baptized infants are placed on the Cradle Roll.
Worshiping Ministry - Matt Hecmanczuk
The Worshiping Ministry assists and supports the Pastor in bringing a meaningful worship service to the congregation. The committees and special groups, staffed with caring volunteers, are nursery, worship planning, lay readers and communion assistants, decorating, instrumental music, choirs, ushering and altar guild. This combined participation draws us closer together in our Apostles community as we gather to glorify our Lord.
